Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 22, 2026
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: Name, email address, and password when you register.
- Learning Data: Languages studied, assessment results, lesson progress, and flashcard performance.
- Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, session duration, and device information.
- Communication Data: Feedback and support requests you submit.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Personalize your learning experience and track progress.
- Adapt assessment difficulty and content recommendations.
- Improve our platform and develop new features.
- Communicate with you about your account and updates.
- Ensure security and prevent fraud.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers with encryption at rest and in transit. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt with a cost factor of 12. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share anonymized, aggregated data for research purposes. Your display name and learning achievements may be visible on public leaderboards — email addresses are never displayed publicly.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Export: Download your learning data in a portable format.
- Opt-out: Disable non-essential data collection in Settings.
6. Cookies and Tracking
We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
7. First-party usage analytics
To understand which lessons are clearest and where learners get stuck, we collect a limited set of first-party usage signals: which pages you visit, which features you use, approximate time on each page, and which assessment items or lessons you fail or abandon. This data stays on our infrastructure — no third-party analytics SDK is involved.
This collection is consent-gated: nothing is recorded for users who haven't accepted the personalization consent or who have revoked it in Settings. Minors (ages 13–17) are excluded entirely — we don't write any usage analytics rows for accounts whose date of birth indicates they are under 18.
Event payloads never contain anything you typed (lesson answers, conversation messages, feedback content), your email, or your name. We tag events with anonymous session identifiers and (for adults who have consented) a user reference, but only to power aggregate dashboards — never to build a per-person profile or share with anyone outside Polylango.
8. Children’s Privacy
Polylango is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
